Set to clarify the issue, president and CEO of Ayala Land Bobby Dy confirmed that no condominium units were given to Vice President Jejomar Binay in Makati City.
"This is not our business practice nor have we encountered a request of this nature. I cannot speak for the other developers," he told ABS-CBN News.
Former Makati Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado on Tuesday alleged Binay of being an owner of units in at least six condominium buildings in the city, using various dummies. The said units according to Mercado, will grant property developers certain perks.
During Senate Blue Ribbon subcommittee’s 12th hearing on various allegations against Binay, Mercado showed pictures of the condominium buildings, titles of the units, and other documents. Mercado added that he made the revelation to build a pattern of corruption in Makati during Binay’s term.
The alleged properties include units of more than 100-square meters at The Peak Condominium, Berjaya Hotel, Perla Compania de Seguros Mansion Condotel, Prince Plaza II Condotel, and Avignon Hotel, which are all under the names of different individuals.
But Mercado cleared that Ayala Land didn’t give any condos to Binay.
"Ang Ayala po kasi matibay manindigan. Ang sabi po kasi ng Ayala simple lang. Hindi naman Makati government ang nagdevelop sa amin. Nakaka-contribute pa nga kami sa Makati dahil ang Ayala ay nasa siyudad ng Makati," he said. "Dun po sa unit, wala pa ho akong nadinig na ang Ayala nagbigay ng unit sa pamilya Binay."
