After the decision was announced by the Ombudsman and the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee regarding the pork barrel controversy, Senator Jinggoy Estrada on Tuesday could not help to describe it as a “well synchronized April Fool’s Day operation”.
In ANC, he aired his statement insisting that he was not expecting fair treatment from the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee since the chairman, Sen. Teofisto Guingona III, made a prejudgment earlier during the release of the committee report.
He added that some Blue Ribbon Committee members were bias and partial to their own colleagues “in pursuit of personal ambitions and political agenda.”
In the report, the Committee on Wednesday suggested the filing of charges against Senators Estrada, Bong Revilla and Juan Ponce Enrile for allegedly funneling their priority development assistance funds to bogus foundations set up by Janet Lim Napoles.
On the same day, the Ombudsman says that it has found enough basis to support the case. These turn of events made Estrada questioned why it all happened on the same day. He raised the issue on why the Blue Ribbon Committee and the Ombudsman only focused on him, Sen. Bong Revilla and Senate Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile since there were other lawmakers identified in the Commission on Audit special report on the use of pork barrel funds from 2007 to 2009.
And he also asked why the investigation centered on the non-government organizations connected to Napoles when the COA report also revealed other NGOs that got bigger pork barrel allocations.
Estrada felt they are being setup. He said he can defend himself or face any court since he has no knowledge of misusing his pork barrel funds. He also denied that he received feedbacks from Napoles or from Ruby Tuason.
Meanwhile, Revilla’s camp stated that actions made by the Blue Ribbon committee are just an exercise to damage personalities. Which will result pressure for the Ombudsman to hasten the persecution of the senators. However, Revilla believes that justice will prevail, and will have vindication out of this issue.
