Reportedly, it is not the newly elect president’s girlfriend Shalani Soledad who will hold the bible in the inauguration that is set to take place at Quirino Grandstand on June 30.
According to Maria Montelibano, head of the inaugural committee of PNoy, the chosen bible holder in the inauguration of Aquino is barangay chairman Eugenio Perez of Tarlac.
In earlier reports, Aquino already disclosed that he would rather have his oath-taking to a barangay chairman than to SC Chief Justice Renato Corona. Aquino chose SC Associate Justice Conchita Carpio-Morales, but added that he also invited all the members of the Supreme Court including Corona.
Traditionally, it’s the wife or the better half of the president who holds the bible as he/she takes his/her oath.
In Arroyo’s oath-taking, it was First Gentleman Mike Arroyo who held the bible. Same thing with President Joseph Estrada. Former Sen. Loi Ejercito-Estrada held the bible for him. First Lady Amelia Ramos held the bible for President Fidel Ramos.
Now, since Aquino is not yet married but have a girlfriend, almost everybody expected Valenzuela City Councilor Shalani Soledad will hold the bible for him.
During the proclamation of Noynoy last June 9, in front of National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), some were wondering why Councilor Shalani was not invited to join him at the podium and to the gathering that served as a blow out of Aquino to his family and friends.
Shalani Soledad has been always behind Aquino, despite the issues being thrown at them. She remains to be supportive and has no intentions of grabbing the spotlight from her boyfriend. She claims that serving the country and the people of the Philippines will always be their first priority.
