Sen. Enrile to file motion for hospital detention

On Monday an appeal from  Senator Juan Ponce Enrile was forwarded to  the Sandiganbayan Third Division to permit  him to be detained in a  hospital particularly  the Philippine National Police (PNP) General Hospital where he has been confined since Friday.

His motion includes the fact that  he is already 90 years old and he is not a flight risk.

He also added that the hospital administrator be given continuing authority to "exercise his professional medical judgment or discretion to allow Enrile’s immediate access or temporary visit to, another medical facility outside of Camp Crame, in case of emergency or necessity…"

He noted  that the PNP General Hospital may not have the required  specialists or resources to fully address elderly needs.

Currently facing plunder and graft charges before the anti-graft court for allegedly pocketing millions of pesos in pork barrel kickbacks Enrile was ordered to be  arrested last Friday following  the court discovery of  probable cause to indict him.,

Despite his detention, Enrile have the opportunity  to leave twice over the weekend for eye treatments without which, Enrile’s camp said, he could go blind.

Meanwhile,  Public Attorney’s Office has said all senior citizens in jail who are not in the best of health should be given preferential treatment.
