Firm on their innocence regarding the pork barrel scam, Senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Jinggoy Estrada and Ramon Revilla Jr. yesterday refused to give in on calls spreading online for them to resign.
The senators even challenged the Department of Justice (DOJ) to reveal in public a list made by supposed scam mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles which has the names of other lawmakers and officials involved in the scam.
“Let us wait and see if we will be found guilty… I leave my fate to God… I will accept the judgment,” Revilla said condemning the resignation call as trial by publicity.
He added that the controversy has left him tired but with hope that the truth would come out about accusations that he had misuse his Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) conniving with Napoles.
With Estrada, resigning to him at this point is equivalent to disregarding the mandate given to him by the people. He added that he “cannot abandon” the 18 million Filipinos who voted for him.
“How did they know that we are guilty?” Enrile said, referring to those calling for the
Senate President Franklin Drilon expressed his sympathy for the three senators, saying “resignation is a matter of personal choice.”
From the minority bloc, Sen. Vicente Sotto called the resignation calls “unfair.”
However, Senate Majority Leader Alan Cayetano thinks that Enrile, Estrada and Revilla should resign if they wish to help save the Senate’s integrity as an institution.
