Samsung hits success over Obama’s selfie with baseball player

It’s indeed a celebration for Samsung after a viral marketing move on Wednesday when a Boston Red Sox baseball star used one of its smartphones to capture a selfie at the White House with Barack Obama.

Obama presided the World Series champions Tuesday when first baseman and assigned hitter David “Big Papi” Ortiz snapped a happy shot of himself with the president. The image was posted on Twitter.

Samsung struck the same public relations success at last month’s Oscars when host Ellen DeGeneres used one of its Galaxy electronic equipment for a group selfie which included Hollywood A-listers who also quickly retweeted the image.

Samsung’s statement to Boston Globe newspaper,”When we heard about the visit to the White House, we worked with David and the team on how to share images with fans.”

“We didn’t know if or what he would be able to capture using his Note 3 device,” it said, adding however that “it was an honor to help him capture such an incredible and genuine moment of joy and excitement.”

According to Sports Business Journal, Ortiz, who received most valuable player award in last year’s World Series, has a just signed an endorsement deal with Samsung.
